What is it?
Word to Text pulls the words out of a Word document without Microsoft Office, ready to paste into an email, a website, a form or an AI tool. Choose Plain text, Markdown that keeps headings, bold, lists and links, or clean HTML without Word’s messy styling. It works for files made in Word, Google Docs (downloaded as .docx) and LibreOffice.
Who is it for?
Bloggers moving articles into Blogger or WordPress, students reusing their notes, office staff filling online forms, and anyone on a phone without Word.
How to use it
- Tap Choose a Word file (.docx) or drag the file onto it.
- Pick the output: Plain text, Markdown or HTML. Switching re-converts the same file.
- The status shows the word count, for example “✓ 1,240 words”. Read the result under Text.
- Press Copy or Download.
Which output?
Plain text keeps the words from tables in reading order. Markdown suits GitHub, Notion and many blogging tools: a Word heading “Budget” becomes ## Budget. HTML is best for pasting into a website editor, keeping headings and lists. Images are left out to keep the text clean.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is opened and processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The first time, the tool downloads a free helper program it needs (from a public download server); your files themselves are never sent to us or anyone else.
Errors and how to fix them
- “This is not a .docx file. Old .doc files must be saved as .docx in Word first”: open the .doc in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and choose Save as .docx.
- “No text found in this document”: the document may only contain scanned images. Use the Image to Text (OCR) tool for those.
- … · some formatting could not be kept: unusual styles were simplified; the words are all there.
- Nothing happens, or a “Could not load” message: the first use downloads the library. Check your internet connection, turn off an ad or script blocker for this site, and reload the page.
