What is it?
Word Search hides words across, down and diagonally in themed grids (Animals, Fruits, Space, Countries, Sports, Colours, Kitchen, Human body), or in a grid made from your own words. Swipe across a word, or tap its first and last letters. Found words are coloured and crossed off, and any puzzle can be printed.
Who is it for?
Children practising spelling, teachers and parents making worksheets from a weekly spelling list, and adults who like a calm puzzle.
How to use it
- Choose a Theme (or My own words) and a Level: Easy: across and down (9 × 9), Medium: + diagonals (11 × 11) or Hard: any direction, backwards too (13 × 13).
- For your own puzzle, type words in Your words, separated by commas or new lines (2 to 13 letters each).
- Press New puzzle.
- Slide from the first letter to the last, or tap the first letter (it lights up) and then the last.
- Press Show answers to see all, or Print for a paper copy with the word list.
Tips
- Look for rare letters first (Q, Z, X, J), then check around them.
- On a keyboard: arrows move, Space marks the first and last letters.
- Classroom example: type this week’s ten spelling words, choose Medium, press New puzzle and Print one copy per child.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Type at least two words for your own puzzle.”
- “2 words did not fit (too long or too many for this grid size). Try a harder level for a bigger grid.”: Easy is 9 × 9, so a 12-letter word needs Hard.
- “Not a word from the list. Try again.”: the line you marked is not a hidden word; check the first and last letters.
- “Allow pop-ups to print.”: allow pop-ups for this site in the browser, then press Print again.
- Printed too small or on two pages: in the print window set Scale to 100% (or “Fit to page”), paper A4 or Letter, and turn off headers and footers.
