What is it?
The WhatsApp Group Rules Writer gives you a ready group description and rules for your kind of group, which you can edit and paste into WhatsApp.
Who is it for?
New group admins, housing society committees, school and tuition parent groups, alumni and family groups, office teams and business customer groups: anyone who needs clear rules and a description without writing them from scratch.
Write the rules
- Type the Group name, choose the Kind of group (family, school parents, housing society, business, office…) and write What the group is for.
- Tick the rules you want, and add your own under More rules.
- Tap Copy description.
Add them to the group
- Open the group → tap the group name → Add group description (or tap the existing one) → paste → Save. Only admins can change it if Edit group settings is set to admins only.
- The description can hold about 2,000 characters. If it is cut off, remove a few rules or shorten them.
- Also send the rules as a message and Pin it (long-press the message → Pin), so new members see it.
Making rules work
- Fewer, clearer rules are followed more than long lists.
- In Group settings, turn on Approve new members to stop spam, or set Send messages to admins only for announcement groups.
- Give a polite warning first, and remove repeat rule-breakers privately.
Example (housing society group)
1. Only society matters: maintenance, water, security. 2. No forwards, political or religious posts. 3. Messages between 8 am and 10 pm. 4. Complaints: tag the secretary, don’t argue in the group.
Four clear lines are more likely to be read than twenty.
Errors and how to fix them
- Can’t edit the description: only admins can, if the group setting Edit group settings is admins only.
- Description cut off: it holds about 2,000 characters; remove some rules.
- Copy description does nothing: allow clipboard access, or long-press the text and copy it manually.
