Save a WhatsApp Chat as PDF (With Photos): Help and Fixes

What is it?

WhatsApp Chat to PDF turns an exported chat into a clean, printable document, with photos, for records, evidence, memories or sharing with a lawyer or office.

Who is it for?

Anyone who needs a chat on paper or as one file: for a complaint to a company or the police, a dispute with a landlord or buyer, office records, insurance claims, or keeping a family group’s memories with photos.

How to export a chat from WhatsApp

  • Android: open the chat → tap ⋮ (top right) → More → Export chat → choose Without media (a .txt file) or Include media (a .zip with photos). Save it to Files or Drive.
  • iPhone: open the chat → tap the contact or group name at the top → scroll down → Export Chat → Without Media or Attach Media → Save to Files.
  • WhatsApp exports at most about the latest 40,000 messages without media (10,000 with media). Older messages are not in the file.

Make the PDF

  1. Export the chat with Include media if you want photos, and open the .zip in the tool.
  2. Choose Which one is you? so your messages sit on the right.
  3. Tap Print or save as PDF. In the print window, choose Save as PDF as the printer (on Android: Select a printer → Save as PDF).
  4. Or tap Download as HTML for one web page that opens in any browser.

Problems and fixes

  • No photos in the PDF: photos are included only when you open the .zip export made with media.
  • The PDF is huge: chats with hundreds of photos make large files. Export without media, or print only the date range you need from the print window’s page settings.
  • Text is cut at the page edge: in the print window, set margins to Default and scale to Fit to page width.
  • Voice notes and videos can’t go inside a PDF. They are listed by file name in the chat.

Is a chat PDF valid as evidence?

Courts and offices have their own rules. A PDF made from an export is a copy, so keep the original phone and the export file too, and ask your lawyer what form they need.
