Vector Calculator: Add, Subtract, Dot and Cross Product, Angle

What is it?

The Vector Calculator does the common sums with two vectors. It adds and subtracts them, finds the dot and cross product, their lengths and the angle between them.

Who is it for?

Physics and engineering students, game developers and anyone working with 2D or 3D vectors.

How to use it

Enter Vector A (x, y, z) and Vector B (x, y, z) as numbers separated by commas. For 2D vectors, use z = 0. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

What the results mean

  • Dot product: 0 means the vectors are at right angles. Used for work done (force · distance).
  • Cross product: a vector at right angles to both, with length equal to the area of the parallelogram they make. Used for torque and normals in 3D graphics.
  • Angle between: from cos θ = A·B ÷ (|A| |B|).

Good to know

The order matters for the cross product: B × A is the negative of A × B. A zero vector has no direction, so the angle with it is undefined.

Worked example

A = (3, 4, 0), B = (4, −3, 0): dot product 0, so they are at 90°; |A| = |B| = 5.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Wrong results: separate x, y, z with commas; use 0 for z in 2D.
