What is it?
Video Converter changes a video’s format so it plays on the device or website you need: an iPhone MOV for a Windows PC, a WebM screen recording for a portal, an MKV for a TV. In Fast mode the picture and sound are copied without re-compressing, which is quick and loses nothing.
Who is it for?
iPhone users sharing videos with Windows and Android users, people uploading to websites that accept only MP4, teachers and office staff using projectors and smart TVs, and anyone with a video that “won’t play”.
How to use it
- Choose a video.
- Pick Convert to (MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV or AVI).
- Keep Fast: keep the original picture and sound when the new format allows it ticked for the best quality.
- Tap Convert, wait for Converting…, and download.
Which format plays everywhere?
MP4 (H.264 video, AAC sound): phones, PCs, TVs, WhatsApp and websites all play it. WebM is for websites that ask for it. Converting to WebM always rebuilds the whole video, so it takes longer.
Want a smaller file, not a different format? Use Compress Video. Try a sample converts a 4-second test clip to WebM.
Why does the first job take longer?
The tool uses a video engine (ffmpeg, the free engine inside many video apps) that runs in your browser. The engine is about 31 MB and downloads only the first time you start a job; after that it starts in a second or two. All the work then happens on your device, so a phone is slower than a computer for long or HD videos. Keep the tab open and the screen on until it finishes.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is opened and changed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. Nothing is sent to us, and closing the page clears it.
Errors and how to fix them
- “The conversion did not work. Try a different setting or format”: untick Fast so the video is fully rebuilt (slower, but it works with more files), or choose MP4.
- Loading the video engine (31 MB, only the first time)… takes long: the engine downloads once, then your browser keeps it. Use Wi-Fi the first time.
- The video engine could not start …: the download was interrupted or blocked. Check your connection, turn off data saver or an aggressive ad blocker for this page, and try again.
- “This file could not be read. It may be damaged, or a format we cannot open”: play the file in your phone’s gallery first. If it plays, convert it with Video Converter and try again; if it doesn’t, the file itself is damaged.
- “This file is too big for your browser. Try a shorter or smaller file, or a computer with more memory”: the browser ran out of memory. Close other tabs, use a computer, or cut the video into parts with Trim Video.
- “This file is over 1.5 GB: too big to process inside a browser”: trim or compress it on a computer first.
