Tip Calculator and Bill Splitter: Tipping and Splitting a Bill Fairly

What is it?

The Tip Calculator works out the Tip, Total with tip, and how much Each person pays when you split the bill.

Who is it for?

Friends splitting restaurant bills, travellers unsure about tipping abroad, and office groups sharing a meal.

How to use it

Enter the Bill amount, the Tip % and the number of People sharing. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

Check for a service charge first

Many restaurants add a service charge to the bill. In India, a service charge is voluntary under consumer guidelines: you can ask for it to be removed. If it’s already there, an extra tip isn’t expected.

Tipping customs

  • India: 5–10% in restaurants is common, if no service charge.
  • USA: 15–20% at sit-down restaurants, more for great service.
  • UK: 10–12.5% if service isn’t included.
  • UAE: around 10%. Japan: tipping is not usual.

Splitting unequally

If some people ordered much more, use the Split Expenses Calculator, which handles different shares.

Worked example

A bill of ₹2,400 with 10% tip for 4 people: tip ₹240, total ₹2,640, ₹660 each.
