What is it?
The Steps to Distance Calculator turns your step count into distance walked, in km and miles. It uses your height and sex for the step length, and estimates calories burned from your weight.
Who is it for?
Walkers using step counters, people with daily step goals, and anyone curious how far 10,000 steps really is.
How to use it
Enter steps, height, sex and weight. Also shown: Your step length (about), Steps in 1 km and Walking time at an easy pace. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.
How accurate is it?
- Step length is estimated from height (about 41–42% of height). Measure yours for better accuracy: walk 20 normal steps, measure the distance, and divide by 20.
- Calories are an estimate for normal walking on flat ground. Hills, a fast pace and carrying weight burn more.
10,000 steps
For most adults 10,000 steps is about 7–8 km and 300–450 kcal. Research shows benefits start well below 10,000: 6,000–8,000 steps a day already lowers health risks for many people.
Why phone and watch counts differ
Phones in a bag or pocket miss steps; wrist bands count arm swings. Use one device consistently to track progress.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Enter your height (more than 0)”: height is needed for step length.
- Distance differs from GPS: measure your own step length for accuracy.
