Step-up SIP Calculator: Increasing Your SIP Every Year

What is it?

The Step-up SIP Calculator shows what happens when you raise your monthly SIP every year, compared with keeping it the same.

Who is it for?

Salaried investors whose income rises every year and who want their SIP to grow with it.

How to use it

Enter the Starting monthly investment, the Increase every year (%), the Expected return and Years. The result shows Total invested, Estimated gains, Future value and Without step-up you would have. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Pick your Currency at the top if asked, then tap Copy result or Share on WhatsApp.

Why step up?

  • Salaries usually rise every year. Raising your SIP by 10% a year keeps your saving in line with your income.
  • Over 20 years, a 10% yearly step-up can roughly double the final amount compared with a flat SIP.

Setting it up

  • Most fund houses and apps offer a “top-up” or “step-up” option when you start a SIP, as a fixed amount or a percentage each year.
  • If yours doesn’t, start a second small SIP each year.
  • Choose a step-up you can keep up even in a year without a raise; 5–10% is common.

Good to know

The same caution as any SIP applies: returns are assumed steady, which markets never are. Use a range of returns to plan.

Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks; read all scheme-related documents carefully.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Huge final value: a step-up of 50% a year compounds fast; use 5–15%.
