Spelling Game: Listen, Type and Learn, With Your Own School List

What is it?

The Spelling Game is a spelling test that marks itself. The device says a word, your child types it and presses ✓ Check. Right answers earn praise; wrong letters are shown so children see exactly where they went wrong. Use easy, medium or hard words, or your own school list.

Who is it for?

Children in Classes 1–6 preparing for spelling tests, parents helping with homework, and teachers running quick spelling practice.

How to use it

  1. Choose a level, or type your list in Your words (one word per line (or separated by commas)) and tap Use my list now.
  2. Tap 🔊 Hear the word, type it and tap ✓ Check. Use 💡 Hint if stuck, or Skip ▶.
  3. Read the result: Green letters are right.

Tips

Enter this week’s school list on Monday and play a few rounds each day. Words missed twice are worth writing by hand three times.

For parents and teachers

Short sessions work best: 5–10 minutes a day, then something active. Sit with young children, say the answers aloud together, and praise effort, not just right answers. Everything runs on the device with no sign-up, no chat and no data collected about your child.

Errors and how to fix them

  • No sound when tapping 🔊: turn up the volume, switch off silent mode (on iPhone, the side switch), and check the browser tab isn’t muted. Sounds use your device’s built-in voices.
  • Word pronounced oddly: device voices sometimes mispronounce names or rare words; add a short sentence in your own list instead (“tear, as in crying”).
  • Phone keyboard autocorrects: turn off autocorrect, or type on a computer, so the test is fair.
