Placeholder Image Generator: Any Size, Colour and Label

What is it?

The Placeholder Image Generator makes plain stand-in images of exact sizes for designs and websites. Choose a size, such as 1200 × 630 for link previews, add your colours and a label, and save it as PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG.

Who is it for?

Web designers filling mock-ups, developers testing image layouts, Blogger theme makers, and teachers making slide templates.

How to use it

  1. Pick from Common sizes or set Width (px) and Height (px).
  2. Choose Background, Text colour and Text (default: the size, e.g. 1200 × 630).
  3. Choose the Format and tap Download, or Copy SVG data URL to use as src="…".

Don’t publish placeholders

Pages with placeholder images look unfinished and can hurt AdSense approval. Replace them with real images, with descriptive alt text, before going live.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Label doesn’t fit: shorten the text or make the image bigger.
  • Data URL very long: that’s normal; it contains the whole image. Use downloaded files for real sites.
  • Special characters in the label: & and < are escaped automatically in SVG.

Questions people ask

  • Can I use SVG placeholders in HTML? Yes, paste the data URL into an img src.
  • Which format is smallest? SVG for simple placeholders.

Practical tip

Use the exact sizes your real images will have; it shows layout problems (text overlapping images, wrong crops) early, before real photos arrive.
