What is it?
The Metronome is a steady click that helps you keep time while practising music or dance. Set any speed from 20 to 300 beats per minute, the beats in a bar and the sound, or tap the beat to set the speed.
Who is it for?
Music students and teachers, band members, singers, dancers and anyone practising rhythm.
How to use it
- Set the BPM and beats per bar.
- Choose clicks per beat and the sound.
- Tap ▶ Start. Use Tap tempo along with a song to find its speed.
Practice tips
Tip: tap “Tap tempo” along with a song 4 or more times to find its speed. Learn a hard passage slowly (e.g. 60 BPM), then raise by 5 BPM once it’s clean.
Errors and how to fix them
- No sound: turn up the volume, check silent mode, and tap the page once (browsers need a tap before playing sound).
- Clicks drift or stutter: close heavy apps and tabs; keep the screen on.
- Hard to hear while playing: raise the volume or use headphones.
Questions people ask
- What are clicks per beat? Subdivisions: 2 gives eighth notes, 3 triplets, 4 sixteenths, useful for practising fast passages.
- Which time signature for most songs? 4/4 for most pop and Bollywood; 3/4 for waltzes; 6/8 for many folk rhythms.
Practical tip
When a passage feels rushed, set the metronome 10–20 BPM below your goal and play it perfectly three times before speeding up.
