Microphone Test: Check Your Mic Before Calls and Classes

What is it?

The Microphone Test checks that your microphone works before a call, class, recording or game. See a live level and the shape of your voice, find out which microphone is used, and Record 5 s and play back to hear how others hear you.

Who is it for?

Students before online classes, job seekers before interviews, gamers, and anyone told “we can’t hear you” on calls.

How to use it

  1. Tap 🎤 Test my microphone and allow access.
  2. Say something or tap near the microphone…: watch the level move.
  3. Tap Record 5 s and play back.

Tip

Bluetooth headsets often switch to low quality when the mic is used; a wired headset sounds clearer for calls.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “This browser cannot …”: use a recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on a secure (https) page. In-app browsers (Instagram, Facebook) often block cameras and microphones: open the page in your browser.
  • “Permission denied” or nothing happens: allow the microphone/camera in the browser’s site settings (icon left of the address), and in phone Settings → Apps → your browser → Permissions.
  • Used by another app: close video-call apps (Zoom, Meet, WhatsApp calls) that hold the device.
  • Level doesn’t move: check the hardware mute switch on headsets, and the system input device (Windows: Settings → System → Sound → Input).
  • Sounds muffled or echoey: move closer, use earphones with a mic, reduce room echo.
