Ideal Weight Calculator: Which Formula to Trust and Healthy Ranges

What is it?

The Ideal Weight Calculator shows a healthy weight range for your height and sex. It also gives the results of four well-known formulas (Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi) so you can compare them.

Who is it for?

Adults setting a weight goal, people starting fitness plans, and anyone curious how a healthy weight is estimated for their height.

How to use it

Enter your height and choose male or female. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

Which number should I use?

  • The healthy range is the most useful: any weight in it is considered healthy for most adults.
  • The four formulas were made for medicine dosing in the 1960s–80s, from height above 5 feet. They give one number each and disagree by a few kg. Treat them as a rough middle point, not a target.

Who it doesn’t fit

  • Children and teenagers: use growth charts with a doctor.
  • Athletes and muscular people: muscle weighs more, so a healthy person can be “over” the range.
  • Older adults, pregnant women, and people under about 150 cm, where the formulas are least reliable.
  • For South Asians, health guidelines often suggest a lower BMI cut-off (overweight from 23), because risk of diabetes rises at lower weights.

Waist size matters too: see the Waist-to-Hip Ratio calculator. This is general information, not medical advice.
