What is it?
WhatsApp crops every profile picture to a square, and then shows it as a circle. The WhatsApp DP Maker fits your whole photo inside a square with a blurred or coloured background, so heads, groups and logos are not cut off.
Who is it for?
People whose group photos, wide landscapes or full-length pictures get cropped as a profile picture, and businesses whose logo gets cut at the edges. Also useful for WhatsApp group icons, which are cropped the same way.
How to make your DP
- Choose your photo, or drop or paste it on the page.
- Pick the Background: a blurred copy of the photo, or a plain Colour.
- Adjust Size, Move left / right and Move up / down until it looks right. Reset starts again.
- Tap Download, then in WhatsApp go to Settings → tap your photo → Edit → choose the new picture. When WhatsApp shows its crop square, don’t zoom: just tap Done.
It still looks cut off in WhatsApp
- WhatsApp shows the DP as a circle, so the corners of the square are hidden. Make the photo slightly smaller with Size so faces and text stay inside the circle.
- You zoomed in WhatsApp’s crop screen. Upload again and tap Done without pinching.
Good to know
- Logos look best on a plain colour that matches their background.
- Your photo never leaves your phone or computer: it is resized in the browser.
Example
A family photo of five people in landscape gets heads cut off as a normal DP. Fit it with a blurred background and reduce the size slightly: everyone fits inside the circle.
Errors and how to fix them
- Picture won’t open: use JPG or PNG; some iPhone HEIC photos need converting first (share the photo, which usually sends a JPG).
- Blurry DP: start from the original photo, not one forwarded on WhatsApp.
- WhatsApp crops it again: don’t pinch or zoom on WhatsApp’s crop screen; just tap Done.
