UTM Link Builder: See Which Post or Message Brought Each Visitor

What is it?

The UTM Link Builder adds UTM tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and more) to any link, so Google Analytics and similar tools show which WhatsApp message, Instagram post, email or poster brought each visitor.

Who is it for?

Small businesses running campaigns, bloggers sharing posts in many places, marketers, and anyone who wants to know which promotion actually works.

How to use it

  1. Enter the address of the page you are sharing.
  2. Use Quick fill presets (WhatsApp, Instagram, email…) or type source, medium and campaign.
  3. Copy link from Your tagged link and share it.

Worked example

For a Diwali offer shared on WhatsApp status: source whatsapp, medium status, campaign diwali2026. In Analytics, open Acquisition → Traffic acquisition and filter by campaign to see visits and sales from that status.

Don’t tag internal links

Use UTM tags only on links shared outside your site; tagging links between your own pages breaks your analytics sessions.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “Enter a valid web address” or “Enter the address of the page you are sharing”: paste the full link starting with https://.
  • Visits show under several names: “whatsapp”, “WhatsApp” and “wa” count separately; always use the same lower-case words.
  • Link looks long and spammy: shorten it with the URL Shortener after tagging.

Questions people ask

  • What is utm_content? An optional tag to tell apart two links in the same post or email.
