URL Encode and Decode: %20, Whole Links and Query Parts

What is it?

URL Encode / Decode converts spaces and special characters to and from percent codes (a space is %20, ₹ is %E2%82%B9), and can split a link into its parts.

Who is it for?

Developers building links and query strings, marketers checking tracking links, and anyone who received a link full of %20 and %E2 codes and wants to read it.

How to use it

  1. Paste the text or link.
  2. Choose Encode, Whole address, Decode or Split a link.
  3. Copy the result.

The modes

  • Encode: for a single value inside a link, such as a search word or a WhatsApp message. Every special character is encoded.
  • Whole address (keep : / ? & =): encode a full link while keeping its structure.
  • Decode: turn %XX codes back into readable text.
  • Split a link: shows the address, path and each query parameter separately. Paste a complete link, starting with https://.

Problems and fixes

  • “Part of this text is not valid percent-encoding”: a % isn’t followed by two hex digits (like %2 or “50% off”). Encode the text instead of decoding it, or fix the broken code.
  • + instead of spaces: forms often encode a space as +. Decoding a value from a query string turns + back into spaces.
  • Link broken after encoding: you encoded a whole link with Encode, so https:// became https%3A%2F%2F. Use Whole address instead.

Good to know

Split a link to spot tracking parameters like utm_source or fbclid, which you can remove before sharing.
