Unit Price Calculator: Which Pack Is Cheaper?

What is it?

The Unit Price Calculator compares up to three packs and shows which is Cheapest per gram, ml or piece.

Who is it for?

Shoppers comparing pack sizes in supermarkets and online, and shopkeepers pricing items fairly.

How to use it

For Pack A, Pack B and Pack C (optional), enter the Price and Quantity (g, ml, pieces…). Use the same unit for all packs: convert 1 kg to 1000 g. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

Why it matters

  • Bigger packs aren’t always cheaper per unit. “Value packs” and “family packs” sometimes cost more per gram.
  • Offers like “20% extra” are easy to compare as unit prices.
  • In India, many shelf labels show “unit sale price”; this tool helps when they don’t.

Beyond price

A bigger pack is only a saving if you use it before it expires or goes stale. Compare per-wash or per-use for detergents and concentrates.

Worked example

  • Pack A: ₹120 for 500 g = ₹24 per 100 g.
  • Pack B: ₹210 for 1 kg = ₹21 per 100 g.
  • Pack C: ₹95 for 400 g + 20% extra (480 g) = ₹19.8 per 100 g.

Pack C is cheapest per gram, even though Pack A is the smallest bill.

Tips

  • Convert everything to one unit (grams or ml) before comparing.
  • For things sold by piece (eggs, nappies), use pieces as the quantity.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “Fill in at least two packs”: price and quantity for two packs.
