UK Income Tax Calculator: Take-Home Pay, NI and Personal Allowance

What is it?

The UK Income Tax Calculator shows your take-home pay after tax. It works out Income Tax, National Insurance and your Personal Allowance, and shows your take-home pay a year and a month.

Who is it for?

Employees and job seekers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland comparing salaries and take-home pay.

How to use it

Enter your Yearly salary (£) and any Pension (salary sacrifice / net pay). The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Pick your Currency at the top if asked, then tap Copy result or Share on WhatsApp.

Rates used

2026/27 rates for England, Wales and Northern Ireland: £12,570 allowance, 20% / 40% / 45%, employee NI 8% then 2% above £50,270. Scotland has its own Income Tax bands. Student loans are not included.

Things that change your tax

  • Above £100,000, the Personal Allowance falls by £1 for every £2 earned, which creates an effective 60% rate between £100,000 and £125,140. Pension contributions can bring income back below £100,000.
  • Your tax code (like 1257L) can differ because of benefits in kind, underpaid tax or a second job. Check your payslip.
  • Student loan repayments (Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 or postgraduate) are taken on top.
  • Relief-at-source pensions are not entered here; they are topped up by the government separately.

This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. For big decisions, check the latest rules and talk to a qualified adviser.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Doesn’t match payslip: your tax code, student loan or Scottish rates differ.
