What is it?
The Tile Calculator works out the Area, Tiles needed (with and without extra), and the number of Boxes to buy.
Who is it for?
Homeowners renovating floors, bathrooms and kitchens, tile shops, and contractors.
How to use it
- Enter the Floor / wall length and Width (or height).
- Choose the Tile size (60 × 60 cm, 80 × 80, 60 × 120, 30 × 30 and more) and the Tiles in a box (on the box label).
- Set the Extra for cutting and breakage.
How much extra?
- 5–10% for simple rooms with straight laying.
- 10–15% for diagonal laying, many corners, or large tiles that waste more when cut.
- Buy a few spare tiles for future repairs: the same shade may not be available later.
Good to know
- Measure each part of an L-shaped room separately and add the areas.
- For walls, subtract doors and windows.
- Check the shade and batch number on every box before laying; mixing batches can show colour differences.
- Skirting tiles are counted separately by running length.
Worked example
A 12 ft × 10 ft room is 120 sq ft (11.15 m²). 60 × 60 cm tiles (0.36 m² each) need 31 tiles; with 10% extra, 35 tiles. At 4 tiles per box, buy 9 boxes.
Common mistakes
- Mixing feet and metres.
- Forgetting cupboards: tile under fitted furniture only if needed.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Enter the area (more than 0)”: fill in length and width.
