Speech to Text: Language, Accuracy, Punctuation and Privacy

What is it?

Speech to Text types what you say. It is useful for long messages, notes, and for anyone who finds typing slow, in English, Hindi, Punjabi and many other languages.

Who is it for?

People who type slowly on phones, older users more comfortable speaking, writers and students dictating first drafts, journalists noting quotes, and anyone writing long WhatsApp messages or emails in Hindi, Punjabi or English.

How to use it

  1. Choose the Language you speak. This matters most: Hindi speech with English selected gives nonsense.
  2. Tap 🎙 Start speaking and allow the microphone when asked. Speak normally.
  3. Edit the text in the box, then Copy or Download .txt. Clear empties it.

Better accuracy

  • Speak at a steady pace, in a quiet room, with the phone 15–30 cm from your mouth. Earphones with a mic help a lot.
  • Say punctuation out loud where your language supports it: “comma”, “full stop”, “question mark”, “new line”.
  • Pause briefly between sentences; it often stops by itself after a long silence. Tap Start again to continue.

It doesn’t work

  • “Speech typing is not available in this browser”: use Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari. Firefox doesn’t support it.
  • The microphone is blocked: see Microphone blocked: how to allow it.

Where is my voice processed?

The page uses your browser’s speech recognition. Chrome and Edge send the audio to Google’s or Microsoft’s speech service to turn it into text; Safari may do it on the device. The text itself stays in your browser and isn’t sent to us.
