Random Name Picker Wheel: Spin a Wheel or Pick Instantly

What is it?

The Random Name Picker Wheel spins a colourful wheel of your names or choices, or picks one instantly.

Who is it for?

Teachers choosing who answers, office teams deciding who presents, giveaway hosts on live streams, and families picking a restaurant or film.

How to use it

  1. Type Names or options, one name or option per line. You need at least two.
  2. Tap Spin the wheel for suspense, or Pick instantly. Shuffle list mixes the whole list, for an order of turns.

Is it really random?

Yes. It uses your browser’s secure random number generator (the same kind used for passwords), so every result is equally likely and can’t be predicted or influenced.

Ideas

  • Classroom: who answers next, or random groups (the Random Team Generator splits a whole class).
  • Office: who presents first, lunch spot, gift winner.
  • Giveaways: paste the names of everyone who entered and spin on a live stream.

Fair draws

Write each person once. Remove duplicates first (Remove Duplicate Lines helps) so nobody gets a better chance. For a big audience, share the screen while spinning.

Example: classroom questions

Paste all 35 student names. Spin for each question. After a student answers, remove their name so everyone gets a turn before anyone is picked twice. Or tap Shuffle list once and go down the list in order.

Weighted choices

Every line has the same chance. To give an option more chance, add it on more lines; for example, write “Pizza” twice and “Biryani” once for a 2-in-3 chance of pizza.

Messages

  • “Add some names first” or “Add at least two names, one per line”: the wheel needs two or more options.

Tips

  • Long names are shortened on the wheel; the full name shows when picked.
  • Your list is kept in this browser, so you can reuse it next class.
  • For dividing everyone into groups, Random Team Generator is quicker.
