What is it?
Moon Phase shows what the moon looks like tonight, or on any date and time. It gives the phase name, how much of the moon is lit, its age in days, the dates of the next phases, and a view of the whole month.
Who is it for?
Stargazers and photographers, people planning night trips and camping, those following purnima and amavasya for rituals and fasts, and curious children.
How to use it
- Pick the Date and Time (now by default).
- Read the phase and percentage lit.
- See Next phases (your time) and This month (at 9 pm).
Good to know
A full lunar cycle takes about 29.5 days. Full moon is purnima and new moon is amavasya. The best nights for stargazing are around the new moon, when the sky is darkest.
Errors and how to fix them
- Festival date differs by a day: religious calendars use local sunrise and tithi rules; check your local panchang or authorities.
Questions people ask
- Why does the moon look different from the picture? Clouds, haze and the moon’s height in the sky change how it looks; the phase and lit percentage are what matter.
- What time is it worked out for? The date and time you choose, in your device’s time zone.
- When is the next full moon? See Next phases (your time) for the exact date and time.
Phases in order
New moon → waxing crescent → first quarter → waxing gibbous → full moon → waning gibbous → last quarter → waning crescent → new moon.
