What is it?
The Inflation Calculator shows how much prices rise over the years, and what Today’s money will be worth in buying power.
Who is it for?
Anyone planning for the future: retirement, children’s education, or checking what today’s savings will be worth.
How to use it
Enter the Amount today, the yearly Inflation rate and the number of Years. Read how much Prices rise by. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.
Choosing an inflation rate
- India’s consumer inflation has averaged around 5–6% a year over the long term; 6% is a common planning figure.
- Education and healthcare often rise 8–10% a year. Use a higher rate for those goals.
- The US, UK and Europe usually target about 2%, but have seen higher years.
Why it matters
- At 6% inflation, prices double in about 12 years. ₹50,000 of monthly expenses today become ₹1 lakh.
- Money in a savings account earning 3% loses buying power every year when inflation is 6%.
- Plan retirement and goals in future money: the Retirement Calculator and Goal Planner do this for you.
Worked example
₹1 lakh at 6% for 10 years: prices rise to about ₹1.79 lakh; today’s ₹1 lakh will buy what ₹56,000 buys now.
Errors and how to fix them
- Odd results: enter inflation as a yearly percentage (6, not 0.06).
