What is it?
The Internet Speed Test measures how fast your connection is right now: download and upload speed in Mbps, ping (how quickly the server answers) and jitter (how steady that is). It then explains in plain words what your speed is good for.
Who is it for?
People checking whether they get the speed they pay for, families deciding where to put the Wi-Fi router, students and workers preparing for video calls, and gamers checking ping.
How to use it
- Close downloads and video on your devices.
- Tap ▶ Start the test. It shows Measuring ping…, Measuring download speed… and Measuring upload speed….
- Read Download (Mbps), Upload (Mbps), Ping (ms) and Jitter (ms) and the verdict, e.g. “Good: HD video and video calls work; large downloads take a while.” Tap ■ Stop to stop early.
What the numbers mean
- Download: streaming and downloads. 25+ Mbps is fast for HD and 4K.
- Upload: video calls, sending files and backups.
- Ping under 50 ms feels instant; over 100 ms lags in calls and games.
This is an online tool: the test sends random data (up to about 100 MB on fast connections) to Cloudflare’s speed-test servers, which see your IP address like any website. On mobile data it uses your allowance.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Could not reach the speed-test server”: check that you are online; an ad blocker may be blocking speed.cloudflare.com.
- “Ping is high, so calls and games may lag”: move closer to the router, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi, or plug in a cable.
- Much slower than my plan: test again near the router and on a cable; if it stays slow, share the result with your provider.
