What is it?
The Income Tax Calculator (India) works out your tax under both the new and the old regime and tells you which is Better for you.
Who is it for?
Salaried people, pensioners and individuals choosing between old and new tax regimes for the year.
How to use it
- Enter your Total yearly income (salary + other), before any deductions.
- Tick I am salaried or a pensioner (standard deduction) if that applies.
- Enter Deductions in the old regime (80C, 80D, HRA, home-loan interest…) and your Age (old regime).
- Compare Tax in the new regime and Tax in the old regime.
Which regime?
- The new regime has lower rates and a larger rebate but almost no deductions. It is better for most people with few deductions.
- The old regime can be better if you have large deductions: full 80C (₹1.5 lakh), health insurance (80D), HRA and home-loan interest together.
- Salaried people can choose each year when filing the return. Business owners have limited switching.
What’s included and not
The calculator includes slab rates, standard deduction, rebate and health and education cess. Surcharge on very high incomes, special rates (capital gains, lottery) and marginal relief may not be fully covered. Check the current Budget’s slabs before filing; rules change every year.
This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. For big decisions, check the latest rules and talk to a qualified adviser.
Errors and how to fix them
- Old regime tax looks too high: enter deductions in their box, not by reducing income.
