What is it?
The Fuel Cost Calculator works out the Fuel needed and Fuel cost for a trip, and how much Each person pays.
Who is it for?
Drivers planning trips, car-pool groups splitting costs, and businesses estimating delivery fuel.
How to use it
- Pick the Units: km and km per litre, km and litres per 100 km, or miles with US or UK mpg.
- Enter the Distance, your car’s Fuel economy, the Fuel price per litre / gallon and the People sharing.
Getting accurate numbers
- Use your real mileage, not the brochure figure. Highway mileage is often better than city mileage; AC and a full car reduce it 5–15%.
- For a round trip, double the distance.
- Fuel prices differ between states because of taxes; use the price where you’ll fill up.
Full trip cost
Tolls, parking and food are not included: add them yourself. To share the total when people paid different amounts, use the Split Expenses Calculator.
Worked example
A 450 km trip in a car that gives 18 km/l with petrol at ₹102: fuel needed 25 litres, cost ₹2,550; shared by 3 people, ₹850 each.
The same trip measured as 5.5 L/100 km: 24.75 litres, ₹2,525.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Enter the fuel economy (more than 0)”: type your car’s mileage.
- Cost too high or low: check the units choice matches your mileage (km/l vs L/100 km).
