Fuel Economy Converter: km/l, L/100 km and mpg (US and UK)

What is it?

The Fuel Economy Converter changes a vehicle’s mileage from one unit to another. It converts km per litre, litres per 100 km and miles per gallon (US and UK), and shows fuel used per 100 km and range on a full tank.

Who is it for?

Car buyers comparing reviews from India, Europe and the US, NRIs moving countries, and drivers who want to understand their real mileage.

How to use it

  1. Type the Value and pick the From unit.
  2. Every other unit is shown under In every unit; tap a value to copy it, or use Copy result.
  3. Tap ⇅ Swap to convert the other way.

Why higher can be better or worse

  • km/l and mpg: higher is better (more distance per fuel).
  • L/100 km: lower is better (less fuel per distance).
  • They are inverses: 20 km/l = 5 L/100 km; 10 km/l = 10 L/100 km.

US or UK mpg?

A UK (imperial) gallon is 20% bigger than a US gallon, so the same car shows a higher mpg in the UK. 40 mpg (UK) is about 33 mpg (US). Check which one a review uses.

Real-world mileage

Official figures (ARAI in India, WLTP in Europe, EPA in the US) come from lab tests. City traffic, AC use, tyre pressure and load usually give 10–30% less. Track your own with a fill-to-fill test, or the Vehicle Fuel and Service Log.

Errors and how to fix them

  • A result looks hugely wrong: check the From unit. Picking a unit that looks similar to the one you meant is the most common mistake.
  • Very long decimals: results show up to 10 significant digits; round to what you need.
  • Zero gives no result: 0 km/l or 0 L/100 km can’t be converted.
