File Checksum Calculator: MD5, SHA-256 and CRC32 to Verify Downloads

What is it?

The File Checksum Calculator makes sure a download is complete and hasn’t been tampered with. Choose a file (an ISO, an installer, a backup, a video) and see its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512 and CRC32 checksums, then compare with the published value.

Who is it for?

People downloading operating systems and software, IT staff, people checking backups after copying, and developers publishing files.

How to use it

  1. Tap Choose files to check.
  2. Paste the checksum from the website in Compare with (Paste the checksum from the website (optional)).
  3. Read the result; Copy any checksum.

Which checksum?

SHA-256 is the standard for checking downloads. MD5 and CRC32 catch accidental damage but can be faked deliberately. Files are read on your device and never uploaded.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “✓ Match: the file is exactly the one that was published”
  • ✗ No match: the file is different, damaged or incomplete. Download it again. Also check you’re comparing the same algorithm (SHA-256 with SHA-256).
  • “Choose a file to compare”
  • Slow on huge files: multi-GB files take time; keep the page open.

Questions people ask

  • Can I check several files? Yes, choose several files at once.
  • Where do I find official checksums? On the download page, often next to the file or in a SHA256SUMS file.

Practical tip

After copying large backups to a pen drive or external disk, compare the SHA-256 of the original and the copy to be sure nothing was corrupted.
