What is it?
The FD Calculator shows what a bank fixed deposit will be worth when it matures. It shows the maturity amount, interest earned, maturity date and effective yearly return, worked out the way Indian banks do it.
Who is it for?
Savers comparing bank fixed deposits, senior citizens planning interest income, and anyone checking a bank’s maturity figure.
How to use it
- Enter the Deposit amount and Interest rate. Tick Senior citizen and set the Extra rate for seniors (most banks add 0.25%–0.50%).
- Set the tenure in Years, Months and Days, and the Start date.
- Choose the Interest payout: At maturity (cumulative, compounded quarterly), Every quarter or Every month.
Cumulative or payout?
- Cumulative: interest is added to the deposit every quarter and earns interest too, so you get the most at maturity.
- Monthly or quarterly payout: interest comes to your account regularly, useful as income, but there is no compounding. Monthly payouts are slightly lower than quarterly (a discounted rate).
Why the bank’s figure differs a little
Banks round daily interest differently, and short FDs (under 6 months) may use simple interest. Rates also differ by tenure slab; use the rate for your exact tenure.
Tax
FD interest is taxable at your slab rate. Banks deduct TDS once interest crosses the yearly limit; submit Form 15G/15H if your income is below the taxable limit.
This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. For big decisions, check the latest rules and talk to a qualified adviser.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Enter the deposit (more than 0)”: fill in the amount.
- “An FD must be for at least 7 days”: lengthen the tenure.
