Encrypt a File With a Password: AES-256 Locked Files

What is it?

Encrypt a File with a Password protects a private file before you email it, store it in the cloud or carry it on a pen drive. Choose any file (PDF, photo, spreadsheet, ZIP) and lock it with AES-256-GCM; it becomes a .locked file that only the password opens.

Who is it for?

Anyone sending ID proofs, bank documents or medical reports, people storing private files in Google Drive or on pen drives, and small businesses protecting records.

How to use it

  1. Choose a file to lock or unlock.
  2. To lock: Choose a strong password, Type it again, tap Lock file, and download the .locked file.
  3. To unlock: choose the .locked file, type the Password, and download the original.

Good to know

Locked files end in .locked and can be opened only here, on any device. Share the password by a different channel (a call), not in the same email.

Everything happens in your browser; nothing you type or choose is uploaded.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “Wrong password, or the locked file was changed or damaged”
  • “This file was not locked with this tool”
  • “Files over 1.5 GB are too big to encrypt in a browser”
  • “Your browser cannot encrypt here”: open the page over https in an up-to-date browser.
  • Forgot the password: nobody can recover it; keep the original safe until the receiver confirms.
