What is it?
The Currency Converter converts between more than 160 currencies at today’s mid-market rates, and keeps working offline with the last rates it saved.
Who is it for?
Travellers, NRIs sending money home, online shoppers buying from abroad, freelancers paid in dollars, and students paying foreign fees.
How to use it
- Type the Amount, pick From and the target currency. ⇅ Swap reverses them.
- Use Copy result to paste the amount anywhere.
Why my bank gives a different rate
- The tool shows the mid-market rate: halfway between buying and selling prices. It is the fairest reference.
- Banks, money changers, card networks and remittance apps add a margin, usually 1–4%, plus fees. Cards may also add a foreign transaction fee of 2–3.5%.
- Compare the final amount the recipient gets, not just the advertised rate.
How fresh are the rates?
Rates come from Exchange Rate API and update about once a day. They don’t move minute by minute like trading screens. For trading or large transfers, check your bank’s live quote.
“Could not get exchange rates”
You are offline, or the rates service didn’t answer. If you used the tool before on this device, it uses the last saved rates and shows their date. Reconnect and reload for today’s rates.
Worked example
If the mid-market rate is ₹84 per US dollar, $500 is ₹42,000; a card with a 3.5% markup charges about ₹43,470.
