Credit Note and Debit Note Maker: Returns, Discounts and Extra Charges

What is it?

The Credit Note and Debit Note Maker creates a proper note to correct a bill after the sale. Use a credit note when goods come back or you give a discount, and a debit note when you billed too little. It handles GST or VAT and writes the amount in words.

Who is it for?

GST-registered traders and manufacturers, small businesses handling returns and rate differences, and accountants preparing adjustments.

How to use it

  1. Choose the Type: credit note or debit note. Optionally pick Against a saved invoice (from the Invoice Generator) to fill details in.
  2. Fill Your business (saved for next time), the party, and the Items with + Add item.
  3. Check the Preview, then Save and Print / Save as PDF.

Credit or debit?

  • Credit note: reduces what the buyer owes, for returns, post-sale discounts or overcharging. GST is reduced too.
  • Debit note: increases the amount, for under-billing or extra charges.

Example

You billed ₹10,000 + 18% GST and the buyer returned goods worth ₹2,000: issue a credit note for ₹2,000 + ₹360 GST against that invoice number. Report it in your GST returns as your accountant advises.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “Add who the note is issued to first”: the party details are empty.
  • Saved notes missing: they’re stored in this browser; back up with My Data.
