Credit Card Payoff Calculator: How Long to Clear Your Card and the Interest

What is it?

The Credit Card Payoff Calculator shows when you’ll be Debt-free in, the Total interest and Total paid, month by month.

Who is it for?

Anyone carrying a credit card balance who wants a clear plan and date to be debt-free.

How to use it

Enter the Card balance, the Interest rate (APR) and what You pay every month. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Pick your Currency at the top if asked, then tap Copy result or Share on WhatsApp.

Card interest is expensive

  • Indian cards often charge 3–3.75% a month: 36–45% a year. US cards often charge 20–30% APR.
  • Paying only the minimum due (often 5% in India) can take years and cost more in interest than the original purchase.
  • Once you carry a balance, new purchases usually lose the interest-free period too, until the full balance is paid.

Getting out faster

  • Card interest is among the costliest debt. Paying even a little more each month cuts the interest a lot. Try raising the payment by ₹1,000 or $50 and watch the months fall.
  • Stop using the card while paying it off.
  • A personal loan at 12–16%, or a balance-transfer offer, can be far cheaper than card interest. Check fees first.
  • With several cards, pay extra on the highest rate first (the avalanche method).

If you can’t pay, talk to the bank early about an EMI conversion or settlement plan; missed payments hurt your CIBIL score.

Errors and how to fix them

  • This payment does not even cover the monthly interest: raise the monthly payment, or the balance grows forever.
