Wind Chill and Heat Index Calculator: Feels-Like Temperature and Safety

What is it?

The Wind Chill & Heat Index Calculator shows what the temperature really feels like. In cold wind it uses wind chill, in hot and humid weather the heat index, and it gives health advice for both.

Who is it for?

Outdoor workers, farmers, athletes, trekkers and anyone checking heat or cold safety.

How to use it

Choose Units (°C and km/h or °F and mph) and enter the Air temperature, Wind speed and Relative humidity. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

How it is worked out

Wind chill: the North American (Environment Canada / US NWS) formula. Heat index: the US National Weather Service formula with its adjustments. Both assume shade. In direct sun, it can feel up to about 8 °C hotter.

Heat safety

  • A heat index above 40 °C is dangerous for long outdoor work. Above 54 °C, heatstroke is likely.
  • Drink water often, rest in shade, wear light loose clothes, and avoid hard work at midday. ORS helps replace salts.
  • Heatstroke signs: very high body temperature, confusion, no sweating, fainting. It is an emergency: cool the person and get medical help.

Cold safety

Wind chill below −28 °C can freeze exposed skin in under 30 minutes. In India this matters most in the high Himalayas: cover ears, nose and fingers.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Feels like equals air temperature: wind chill needs cold and wind; heat index needs heat and humidity.
