What is it?
The Wallpaper Calculator works out how many Strips needed, how many Strips from one roll, and the Rolls needed.
Who is it for?
Homeowners and interior decorators planning a feature wall or a whole room.
How to use it
- Enter the Total width of the walls (add up all the walls you’ll paper) and the Wall height.
- Enter the Roll width and Roll length from the label, and the Pattern repeat (0 for plain paper).
How it is worked out
Each strip is the wall height plus trimming and pattern matching. It adds 10 cm per strip for trimming. A large pattern repeat wastes more of each roll, so you may need more rolls.
Tips
- Buy one extra roll from the same batch for repairs. Check the batch number on every roll.
- Don’t subtract small windows and doors; the offcuts rarely fit elsewhere.
- Common roll sizes: European 53 cm × 10 m; Indian and American rolls vary, so check the label.
Worked example
Walls totalling 12 m wide and 2.7 m high, rolls 53 cm × 10 m, no pattern: each strip is 2.8 m with trimming, one roll gives 3 strips, 12 m needs 23 strips, so 8 rolls (buy 9 to be safe).
With a 64 cm pattern repeat, each strip must start at the same point of the pattern, so a roll may give only 2 strips, and you’d need 12 rolls.
Measuring and ordering
- Measure each wall at the widest point and add them.
- Order all rolls at once from one batch.
- Check the paper’s instructions: some are pasted on the wall, others on the paper.
Errors and how to fix them
- “The wall is taller than one roll”: use longer rolls, or a different paper.
