Water Intake Calculator: How Much Water to Drink a Day

What is it?

The Water Intake Calculator estimates the Water a day you need, in litres, Glasses (250 ml) and US fluid ounces.

Who is it for?

Anyone wanting a daily water target, especially in hot weather, during exercise, or when trying to build healthier habits.

How to use it

Enter Your weight and Exercise a day, and tick I live in a hot or humid place if that applies. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

Food and other drinks count

About a fifth of this usually comes from food. Fruits, vegetables, dal, curd, milk, tea and buttermilk all count. Tea and coffee hydrate too, despite the myth.

Are you drinking enough?

  • Pale yellow urine is a good sign; dark yellow means drink more.
  • Thirst, headache, tiredness and dizziness in heat can be signs of dehydration.
  • Drink more in summer, during fever, diarrhoea or vomiting (with ORS for illness), and during long workouts.

Too much is possible

Drinking many litres very quickly can dilute the body’s salt. Spread water through the day. Ask your doctor if you have kidney or heart conditions, where fluid may need to be limited.

This is general information to help you understand your numbers, not medical advice. Talk to a doctor about your own health.
