What is it?
The Trip Cost Calculator adds up the cost of a trip and splits it between travellers. It includes fuel, tolls, stay, food and other costs, and shows the total and the cost per person.
Who is it for?
Families and friends planning road trips, and anyone deciding between driving and other transport.
How to use it
- Enter the Total distance (both ways), your car’s Mileage and the Fuel price per litre.
- Add Tolls and parking, the Nights and Stay per night, Food per person per day and Days.
- Enter the number of People and any Other (tickets, shopping).
Getting good estimates
- Use a map app for distance and toll amounts (FASTag charges appear on toll plaza lists).
- Use your real highway mileage; hills and a fully loaded car use more fuel.
- Add 10–15% for surprises: detours, extra snacks, parking fees.
Car or train or flight?
For two people a long drive may cost more than trains; for four or five sharing a car, driving is usually cheaper. Compare the per-person cost, and the time.
Worked example
Four friends drive 600 km return at 15 km/l with petrol at ₹105: fuel ₹4,200. Tolls ₹800, 2 nights at ₹2,500 = ₹5,000, food ₹600 × 4 × 3 = ₹7,200. Total ₹17,200, or ₹4,300 per person.
Tips
- Enter the total distance both ways.
- Use Other for tickets, parking and sightseeing.
Errors and how to fix them
