Text Splitter: Making Threads for X, SMS and Instagram

What is it?

Text Splitter breaks long text into parts that each fit a limit, without cutting words.

Who is it for?

People posting long thoughts as X (Twitter) threads, businesses sending long SMS or WhatsApp status text, and anyone who must fit text into a character limit without cutting words.

How to make a thread

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Pick a Part size: X (280), SMS (160), Threads (500), WhatsApp status (700), Instagram (2,200) or your own.
  3. Keep Number the parts on to add 1/3, 2/3, 3/3.
  4. Copy each part between the ——— lines and post them in order.

Why is a part shorter than the limit?

The next word did not fit, so it starts the next part. The 1/3 label counts toward the limit too.

Line breaks disappeared

Line breaks and double spaces are joined into single spaces so the parts fill evenly. Add any breaks you want after copying.

Worked example: an X (Twitter) thread

A 900-character announcement split at 280 with numbering gives four parts, each ending with 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4. Post the first, then reply to it with the second, and so on, so they stay connected as a thread.

SMS and Hindi text

An English SMS holds 160 characters, but text with Hindi, Punjabi or emoji uses a different encoding and holds only 70 per message. Choose Custom size and enter 70 for those, or your messages will be split by the phone anyway and may cost more.

Tips

  • Write the first part as a hook: it’s the only one most people see.
  • Links on X count as 23 characters whatever their length; the splitter counts the full link, so parts with links may be shorter than needed, which is safe.
  • Check each part reads well on its own before posting; split points follow words, not sentences.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “The size is too small. Use at least 20 characters”: choose a bigger custom size.
  • A very long word or link is cut: words longer than the size are split; shorten links first.
  • Line breaks disappeared: the splitter joins lines to fill parts evenly; add breaks after copying.
