Sukanya Samriddhi Calculator: Maturity, Deposits and Rules for SSY

What is it?

The Sukanya Samriddhi Calculator estimates the Maturity value, Total deposited (15 years) and tax-free Interest earned of a Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) account for a girl child.

Who is it for?

Parents and guardians of girls under 10 who want a safe, tax-free savings plan for education and marriage.

How to use it

Enter the Yearly deposit (₹250 to ₹1,50,000), the Girl’s age when the account is opened, the Year the account is opened and the Interest rate. The answer appears as you type; there is no Calculate button. Tap Copy result to copy it, or Share on WhatsApp to send it.

Key rules

  • Open it before the girl turns 10, by a parent or guardian, at a post office or authorised bank. One account per girl, up to two girls per family (three in case of twins or triplets).
  • Deposits are made for 15 years; the account matures 21 years after opening. Interest keeps growing in the last 6 years without new deposits.
  • Up to 50% of the balance can be withdrawn after she turns 18, for higher education. The account can be closed for her marriage after 18.
  • Deposits qualify under Section 80C (old regime); interest and maturity are tax-free.

Get the most from it

Deposit early in the financial year (before 5 April) so the whole year’s deposit earns interest. Pay at least ₹250 every year, or the account becomes inactive and needs a penalty to revive.

Check the current rate

Small savings rates are set by the Government of India every quarter. The calculator starts with the rate shown on it; check the latest rate on the India Post website or at your post office or bank before investing, and type it in.

This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. Read the scheme or policy documents, and ask a qualified adviser for big decisions.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “Deposit between ₹250 and ₹1,50,000 a year”
  • “The account can be opened only before the girl turns 10”
