Shift Roster Planner: Rotating Duty Roster From a Pattern

What is it?

The Shift Roster Planner makes a rotating duty roster without a spreadsheet. List your team, choose a pattern like 2 days, 2 nights, 2 off, set the start date, and it builds the roster, staggering people so every day is covered, with daily cover counts.

Who is it for?

Security agencies, hospitals and nursing homes, factories, call centres, hotels and shops with shift workers, and supervisors making monthly duty charts.

How to use it

  1. Type the Team (one per line).
  2. Pick from Common patterns or type a Pattern (D day, N night, M morning, E evening, G general, O off, L leave), e.g. DDNNOO.
  3. Set the Start date and tap Make roster. Check On duty counts; Download CSV or Print.

Worked example

Six guards on DDNNOO: each person works 2 days, 2 nights, then 2 days off; staggered starts give 2 people on day and 2 on night every day. Check labour rules on weekly rest and night-shift limits in your state.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “Add at least one name”
  • “Type a pattern using D (day), N (night), M, E, G and O (off), e.g. DDNNOO”
  • Unknown letter …: only the letters listed are understood.
  • “Allow pop-ups to print, or download the CSV”

Questions people ask

  • Can I mark leave? Use L in the pattern for leave days.
