Shapes and Colours: 12 Shapes, 11 Colours, Mixing Paint and a Game

What is it?

Shapes and Colours teaches twelve shapes, from circle and square to hexagon, octagon, star and heart, each with its sides, corners and an everyday example, and eleven colours with spoken names. Children can mix paint colours and play “tap the blue triangle”.

Who is it for?

Pre-school and Class 1 children, parents, and teachers teaching early maths and art.

How to use it

  1. Tap a shape or colour to see it and hear its name.
  2. Mix two paint colours to see the result.
  3. Play the game and Play again.

Paint vs light

Paints mix like this. Light from a screen mixes differently: red and green light make yellow! That’s a fun experiment for older children.

Activity

After playing, go on a “shape hunt” at home: the clock is a circle, the door a rectangle, a samosa a triangle.

For parents and teachers

Short sessions work best: 5–10 minutes a day, then something active. Sit with young children, say the answers aloud together, and praise effort, not just right answers. Everything runs on the device with no sign-up, no chat and no data collected about your child.

Errors and how to fix them

  • No sound when tapping 🔊: turn up the volume, switch off silent mode (on iPhone, the side switch), and check the browser tab isn’t muted. Sounds use your device’s built-in voices.
  • Colours look different on screens: screens vary; that’s normal.
