Secret Santa Generator: Fair Draw, Couples Kept Apart and Private Reveal

What is it?

The Secret Santa Generator draws names fairly so everyone gives one gift and gets one, and nobody draws themselves.

Who is it for?

Families, friend groups and office teams arranging gift exchanges for Christmas, Diwali or New Year, especially when everyone is in one place with one phone.

How to use it

  1. Under Who is taking part?, write one name per line. You need at least 3 people.
  2. Under Must not draw each other (optional), write pairs like Ravi, Priya, one pair per line: couples or flatmates who would buy for each other anyway.
  3. Set a Gift budget (optional), like ₹500 or $25, and tap Draw names.

Reveal privately

Pass the phone round: each person taps their own name and Show to see who they buy for, then hands it on. The organiser can Copy all (organiser) to keep a private record, or to message each person separately.

Messages

  • Two people have the same name: add a surname or initial.
  • No draw works with these rules: too many “must not draw” pairs. Remove one or add people.

Is it really random?

Yes. It uses your browser’s secure random number generator (the same kind used for passwords), so every result is equally likely and can’t be predicted or influenced.

Example

Eight friends, two couples who mustn’t draw each other, budget ₹500. Enter the names, the two pairs, the budget, then Draw names. Hand the phone round: each person taps their own name, sees their match, and passes it on. Nobody else, not even the organiser, needs to look.
