Remove Background: Cut Out People and Products With AI

What is it?

Remove Background uses an AI model running in your browser to find the subject of a photo and cut it out. You can keep the background see-through (PNG) or replace it with white, any colour, or a blurred copy of the original.

Who is it for?

Sellers making product photos for WhatsApp catalogues, Amazon or Meesho, students and job seekers making a white-background passport-style photo, designers making stickers and posters, and anyone making a profile picture.

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo (JPG, PNG or WebP).
  2. Under What is in the photo, pick Any object (products, pets, people; bigger model) or People (fast) (smaller model for portraits).
  3. Tap Remove background. The first time you’ll see Downloading the AI model (…), then Finding the subject… and Cutting out….
  4. Choose the New background: See-through, White, Colour (pick the Background colour) or Blur, check the Result preview, and download.

Tips

  • Product photos: shoot on a plain table in daylight, then choose White for marketplaces.
  • Profile photos: choose Blur for a professional look.
  • Stickers: keep See-through and use WhatsApp Sticker Maker next.

The AI runs on your device, so your photo never leaves it. The model downloads once and is reused next time.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “The AI model could not be downloaded. Check your connection and try again”: the model (about 6–42 MB) failed to download. Use Wi-Fi and try again.
  • “… could not be opened. Try a JPG, PNG or WebP”: convert HEIC photos with HEIC to JPG first.
  • Edges or hair look rough: use Any object for better detail, and start with a sharp, well-lit photo with a plain background.
  • Part of the subject was removed: crop the photo closer to the subject and try again.
