Maze Generator: How to Play, Solve and Print Mazes

What is it?

Maze Generator and Solver makes a brand-new maze every time, from a quick 10 × 10 to a 40 × 40 monster. Guide the dot from the top-left to the star at the bottom-right with arrow keys, swipes or taps, ask for the shortest way out, or print the maze with an answer page. Every maze is “perfect”: exactly one route, no loops.

Who is it for?

Children who love mazes, teachers and parents making activity sheets, and travellers who want something to print for the journey.

How to use it

  1. Choose a Size: Easy (10 × 10), Medium (18 × 18), Hard (28 × 28) or Huge (40 × 40, best printed), and press New maze.
  2. Move the dot with arrow keys (hold Shift to run), swipes (the dot runs to the next junction) or taps.
  3. Watch Steps and Time. At the exit you see You escaped the maze! with your steps and the shortest possible.
  4. Press Show the way out for the shortest route from where you are.
  5. Press Print (tick Print an answer page too) or Download PNG.

Tips

  • The wall-follower trick: keep one hand on the same wall and you will always reach the exit of a perfect maze (not always by the shortest way).
  • For a class, print one Medium maze per child and keep the answer page for yourself.
  • Download PNG to paste a maze into your own worksheet.

Errors and how to fix them

  • The dot does not move: there is a wall in that direction. Visited squares are shaded, so you can see where you have been.
  • Swipes scroll the page: swipe inside the maze, or use taps.
  • The corridors are too thin on my phone: choose Easy or Medium on phones; Huge is meant for printing.
  • Printed too small or on two pages: in the print window set Scale to 100% (or “Fit to page”), paper A4 or Letter, and turn off headers and footers.
