What is it?
JS Object to JSON turns a JavaScript object into valid JSON, and JSON back into a tidy JavaScript object. It fixes the things JSON does not allow, such as keys without quotes, single quotes, comments and trailing commas.
Who is it for?
Developers copying objects from code into config files or APIs, testers preparing request bodies, and anyone converting between JS and JSON.
How to use it
- Choose Convert: JavaScript → JSON or JSON → JavaScript.
- Paste the object; set JS quotes and Indent for output.
- Copy the result.
Worked example
{name: 'Asha', tags: ['vip',], // note becomes {"name": "Asha", "tags": ["vip"]}: keys quoted, single quotes replaced, trailing comma and comment removed.
Errors and how to fix them
- Line … error: something isn’t plain data, like a function, a variable name or
new Date(). JSON can only hold text, numbers, true/false, null, arrays and objects. - This is not valid JSON: (JSON → JavaScript): check it with the JSON Validator first.
- undefined values disappear: JSON has no undefined; use null instead.
Questions people ask
- What happens to comments? They’re removed: JSON has no comments.
- Will dates convert? new Date(…) isn’t data; write dates as strings like "2026-11-01".
Practical tip
Before putting converted JSON into a config file, run it through the JSON Validator once. For API request bodies, choose 2-space indent for readability while testing, then minify for production if size matters.
