What is it?
HTML to Text turns HTML code (a web page’s source, an email template or a Blogger post) into plain, readable text, keeping paragraphs and line breaks.
Who is it for?
Bloggers copying words out of a post’s HTML view, email marketers making plain-text versions, developers cleaning scraped content, and anyone with a web page’s source who just wants the readable words.
How to use it
- Paste the HTML.
- Tick Keep link addresses to show each link’s address after its text, and Bullets for list items to keep lists readable.
- Copy or download the text.
Where it helps
- Making a plain-text version of an HTML email newsletter.
- Getting the words out of a Blogger or WordPress post’s HTML view.
- Counting the real words of a page, without its code (paste the result into the Word Counter).
Problems and fixes
- Code or CSS appears in the text: content inside <script> and <style> is removed, but text shown by scripts on the live page isn’t in the HTML at all.
- & or left behind: these are decoded to normal characters. If you still see them, they were written twice (for example &amp;). Run the result through HTML Entities → Decode.
- Tables come out as lines: each cell becomes text on its own. Use a spreadsheet to import real tables.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser. Your text is kept in this browser only so it is still there if you reload, and Clear removes it.
