Goal Planner: Saving for a House, Car, Wedding, Travel or Education

What is it?

The Goal Planner turns a goal (buying a house, a car, a child’s education, a wedding or travel) into a monthly saving plan.

Who is it for?

Parents planning education and weddings, families saving for a house or car, and anyone turning a dream into a monthly number.

How to use it

  1. Pick the Goal and enter its Cost today and how many Years away it is.
  2. Set how much the Cost rises by each year, your Expected return, and what you have Saved already for it.
  3. Read what the Goal will cost, the Monthly SIP needed, or Or one lump sum today.

Choosing the cost increase

  • Education costs in India often rise 8–10% a year, faster than general inflation.
  • Cars and travel: 5–6%. Weddings and houses depend a lot on the city.

Matching investments to the time left

  • Under 3 years: keep the money safe (FD, RD, debt funds). Use a lower expected return, around 6–7%.
  • 3–7 years: a mix, such as hybrid funds.
  • Over 7 years: equity funds usually suit, with higher expected returns but ups and downs.
  • As the goal comes closer, move money from equity to safer options so a market fall doesn’t hit just before you need it.

This is an estimate to help you plan, not financial or tax advice. For big decisions, check the latest rules and talk to a qualified adviser.

Errors and how to fix them

  • Monthly SIP is zero: you’ve already saved enough for the goal.
