EPUB Reader: Read E-Books in Your Browser With Chapters and Night Mode

What is it?

The EPUB Reader opens an EPUB e-book from a library, a publisher or Project Gutenberg and lets you read it straight away on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app or account. Jump between chapters from the contents list, make the text bigger or smaller, switch to sepia or night reading, and come back later to the chapter where you stopped.

Who is it for?

Readers without an e-book app, students with EPUB textbooks or free classics, and anyone reading on a shared or office computer.

How to use it

  1. Tap Open an EPUB e-book or drag the .epub file onto it. Try a sample opens a tiny demo book.
  2. Pick a Chapter from the list, or use ← Previous and Next →. The status shows “Chapter 3 of 24”.
  3. Use A− and A+ for text size, and Day, Sepia or Night for the theme. Your settings and place are remembered on this device.

Tips

  • Project Gutenberg offers over 70,000 free classic e-books in EPUB format.
  • Night theme is easier on the eyes in bed; Sepia is gentle in daylight.

Is it safe?

Each chapter is shown in a sealed frame with any scripts removed, so a book cannot run code or reach your other tabs.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The file is opened and processed inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The first time, the tool downloads a free helper program it needs (from a public download server); your files themselves are never sent to us or anyone else.

Errors and how to fix them

  • “This file is not an EPUB e-book (or it is damaged)”: download it again; make sure the file ends in .epub.
  • “This is not an EPUB e-book (no META-INF/container.xml inside)”: it may be a ZIP or another format renamed .epub.
  • “The book’s table of contents file is missing” or “This book has no readable chapters”: the file is broken; get a fresh copy.
  • Kindle (AZW, KFX) or DRM-protected books: they only open in the shop’s own app.
