What is it?
Riddles for Kids is a set of more than 40 easy “What am I?” riddles we wrote for children of about 4 to 10. Each describes something a child knows, such as a frog, a kite, a rainbow, a kettle or a pineapple, in a playful way. Every riddle has a hint and an answer with a short fact, and the riddles your child solves get a tick.
Who is it for?
Parents and grandparents, teachers who want a class warm-up or a rainy-day activity, and children who are learning to read and enjoy guessing games. Younger children love hearing riddles read aloud; older ones can read and type alone.
How to use it
- Read the riddle in the big box. The line above it shows its number, how many riddles there are and how many you have solved (✓ means this one is solved).
- Type your answer in the box and press Check (or Enter). A right answer shows Correct! 🎉, the answer and a short explanation.
- Stuck? 💡 Hint gives a clue; 👀 Answer shows the answer and why it is right.
- Move on with Next ▶, go back with ◀, or jump anywhere with 🔀 Random. Choose Not solved at the top to skip the riddles you have already cracked.
- Send the riddle (without the answer) to a friend with Share on WhatsApp or Copy. Open See all riddles with answers for the full list.
Ideas for parents and teachers
- Say it, don’t type it: read the riddle aloud, let everyone guess, then press 👀 Answer. It works well on car journeys and at birthday parties.
- Example: “I have two wheels, two pedals and a bell, and you must balance to ride me.” The hint says “You ride it to school.” The answer is a bicycle.
- Afterwards, ask your child to make up their own riddle about a toy or an animal: describing things without naming them builds vocabulary.
- There is no chat, no sign-up and nothing to buy, and nothing typed is sent anywhere.
Errors and how to fix them
- “Your answer…” shown in red: you pressed Check with an empty box. Type a guess first.
- “Not quite. Try again, or take a hint.”: your answer did not match. Capital letters, “a” and “the”, plurals, spaces and punctuation are already ignored, and common other wordings are accepted, so try another word for the same thing, or press 👀 Answer to compare.
- “You have solved them all! 🏆”: with Not solved chosen there is nothing left. Switch back to All to play them again.
- My ticks and solved count are gone: progress is saved only in this browser on this device. A private (incognito) window, clearing site data, or another phone or browser starts from zero.
- My child said the right answer but it was not accepted: we accept common other words (for example cycle or bike for bicycle). If a word is not listed, simply press 👀 Answer and agree it counts.
